Built in 1898 as the “Yum”, it was designed as a racing yacht for the class of 20-rater yachts. Her first racing season was also quite successful, a 4th place at her first regatta on 17 June 1899 at the Royal Corinthian Club was followed by only 1st and 2nd places.
After several sales and name changes the Pen Duick was sold to Eric Tabarly. While this boat is lying down and being renovated constantly, Eric Tabarly achieved world fame on his other Pen Duicks. Only on July 9th 1989 the Pen Duick sails again.
The 100th birthday of the Pen Duick in 1998 is celebrated in Brittany. Also in Fairlie, the place of work of Pen Duick’s famous designer William Fife, the Pen Duick is expected on this occasion. On his way to Scotland, Eric Tabarly goes overboard and drowns in the night from 12 to 13 June 1998.
Since then the “Assocation Eric Tabarly” takes care of the preservation of the Pen Duicks.
The masts must be installed and rigged by yourself

Ornaments and embellishments (for example canons, bull’s-eyes, anchor, dials or wheels et cetera) are made out of brass, chrome and other high-quality metals.
The sails are either out of cloth or silk, the mast is made out of wood and the hemp rope is made out of solid lisle. Some of these ropes have special knots, which allow the ropes to be retightened at any time.
