The design for Tuiga was drawn in 1908 by William Fife III. The yacht was made for the Duke of Medinacelli, which looked very similar to the “Hispania” of the Spanish King.
Both yachts competed against each other in many competitions, but the Tuiga could never defeat the “Hispania”. Later the yacht changed owners frequently and its condition deteriorated significantly.
In Cyprus Tuiga was discovered in 1989 by Duncan Walker, the owner of “Fairlie Restaurations”. Walker acquired Tuiga for a lover of classic yachts and transferred the poorly patched yacht to Mallorca in winter. The journey was difficult, Tuiga licked so badly that the crew seriously thought of giving up the boat. In March Tuiga was brought to England and restored at “Fairlie Restaurations”. Since then Tuiga has been the flagship of the Monaco Yacht Club.
The masts must be installed and rigged by yourself
The advertised model ships are complete and accurate replicas of the “Tuiga”
This model is 100 % hand made and crafted with great precision.
Exotic woods, such as teak, mahogany, rosewood or mango are being used, which result in precious, decorative and exclusive models as an end product. The hull is being sanded down carefully after completion, and if required, painted with clear coating material.
Ornaments and embellishments (for example canons, bull’s-eyes, anchor, dials or wheels et cetera) are made out of brass, chrome and other high-quality metals.
The sails are either out of cloth or silk, the mast is made out of wood and the hemp rope is made out of solid lisle. Some of these ropes have special knots, which allow the ropes to be retightened at any time.
